The demand among Italians caused by the lack of such a means of transportation after World War II added to its appeal among buyers. Thanks to Vespa scooters, the Piaggio factory destroyed during World War II, previously producing aircraft and engine parts for the defense industry in Pontedera, was rebuilt. Later, Vespas began to be sold outside Italy, where they also gained popularity.
